Quetzal’s Volunteer Counsellors are the key reason we are able to open our doors day in, day out, week in, week out, year in, year out, and to provide our specialist service to some of the most vulnerable women in Leicester and Leicestershire. Their commitment, enthusiasm and willingness to journey alongside their clients, and to take on this challenging work is what provides clients with the space and opportunity for healing and change.

We pride ourselves in the knowledge that we are one of the most sought after agencies for student counsellors to attain their placements with. Once they have completed their required hours in training, most of our volunteers continue to offer their services with us as they witness how much their work can help improve the lives of their clients. We ask our placement counsellors to make a commitment to the agency of at least a full year because this helps create stability within the organisation and enables us to deliver the best service possible.

Quetzal provides all new counsellors with specialist in-house training on childhood sexual abuse prior to starting their clinical work with us.  The training is interactive and experiential in nature, and provides you with knowledge and information, which will help when working with Quetzal’s client group.  This is followed by an induction morning to introduce you to the Centre’s policies and way of work.

We have in-house supervisors who supervise the work of Quetzal counsellors.  Quetzal is open from 9 am to 8 pm Monday to Friday. We have four dedicated counselling rooms and can currently offer counselling slots throughout the week, both daytimes and evenings, although counsellors may need to be flexible about their availability in order to book a room.
